Historical Head-to-Head Index

  • The Historical Head-to-Head (HHH) Index ranks all of England's opponents according to their record against the Three Lions. Where England have a 100% record against opponents the index will be 1, whilst a index of 0.5 means the two teams have an equal record. To date there are only five teams with a better head-to-head record, Uruguay (who first gained the advantage in 1953), Brazil (1962), Italy (Feb 1997), Romania in 2000, and Netherlands in 2016.
  • Seven opponents have an equal record although four of these have just been a single encounter. Only three teams have a better goal difference: Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.
