England met Canada in a warm-up game for the 1986 World Cup. England had met the hosts, Mexico, the previous week in another friendly in Los Angeles.
Canada, managed by Englishman Tony Waiters, had just been crowned CONCACAF champions and were also on their way to the Finals for the first time ever. They lost all three games and only qualified again in 2022 where they also lost all three games.
