The LFF was formed in 1922 and was affiliated with FIFA in 1923. They played their first game in June 1923 with a 5-0 drubbing of neighbours Estonia. Annexation by the Soviet Union in 1940 meant they had to wait until independence in 1990 to play football as a separate nation once again. They joined UEFA in 1992.
Lithuania have met England twice, during qualification for Euro '16. England won 3-0 and 4-0. They meet again in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
