Croatia

Hrvatski Nogometni Savez
Founded: 1912
Federation: UEFA
- Croatia first matches came prior to 1945 as an independent state. After the Second World War the team was dissolved as Croatia became part of Yugoslavia.
Today's team was formed in 1990 after the break-up of the Yugoslav republic.
England's first meeting was prior to Euro '96 in a friendly. One of England's finest tournament wins came against Croatia during Euro '04 with a brace from teenager Wayne Rooney. Croatia were also instrumental in the downfall of Steve McClaren as they beat England to qualification for Euro 2008 by winning home and away.
They were paired again for qualification for the 2010 World Cup but England comfortably won both legs 4-1 and 5-1. They also met in the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup. Croatia won 2-1 in extra time. Since then they have met in the UEFA Nations League and at Euro 2020, England gaining revenge with a 1-0 win.
