Ecuador played their first game in 1938; a 1-1 draw with Bolivia. They have appeared in two World Cups: 2002 where they failed to get beyond the group stage despite a 1-0 win over Croatia; and 2006 where they went one further but lost to a David Beckham free-kick in the second-round match against England.
The two other meetings were World Cup warm-up matches in 1970 and 2014.
