Turkey

Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu
Founded: 1923
Federation: UEFA
- The Turkish Football Federation was formed in April 1923 and within six months they were playing international football drawing 2-2 with Romania in Istanbul.
Turkey qualified for the 1950 World Cup but had to withdraw, they also qualified for the 1954 World Cup after drawing lots with Spain. (The two teams had drawn three successive play-offs and no-one had thought of penalty shoot-outs yet).
Their only other World Cup appearance was in 2002 in Japan and Korea where they finished a commendable third after losing to Brazil in the semi-final.
Turkey's record against England is appalling. Despite two 0-0 draws in 1987 and 2003 they have only scored one goal which was in the last encounter in May 2016.
The cumulative goal difference is 33-1.
