The origins of the current Czech Republic national football team date back to the early 1900s when the region was represented as Bohemia. England notably defeated a Bohemian side 4-0 in Prague in 1908. Following the end of the First World War, the territories of Czech and Slovakia gained independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, leading to an era of international football played under the flag of Czechoslovakia. This continued until 1993, when the two countries peacefully separated, and football representation was divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
England has maintained a strong competitive record against the Czech Republic in all its forms, including notable wins in the 1970 and 1982 World Cups and during Euro 2020.
