Slovenia

Nogometna zveza Slovenije
Founded: 1920
Federation: UEFA
- Although the Slovenian football association was founded in 1920, it had to wait until independence following the break-up of Yugoslavia in 1991 for affiliation with FIFA and UEFA. The first official match was a one-all draw with Estonia in 1992.
Slovenia have qualified for the European Championship once (2000) and the World Cup twice (2002 & 2010); in the latter tournament, they met England in the final match of the group stage where a Jermain Defoe goal decided the game. They are paired in qualification for the 2018 World Cup.
