Notes:
A very fast forward, he reputedly could the 100 yards in 10 seconds and was a champion sprinter. The first international match was an uncomfortable experience for Clegg as 'the southern snobs wouldn't talk to him on the train up to Glasgow or pass to him out on the pitch!'. He refereed two FA Cup finals and also the 1893 match between England and Scotland. He joined the FA Committee in 1885 and was chairman and vice-president by 1889 and president in 1923 until his death. Knighted in 1927 for services to football (the first man to be honoured so). Brother of Sir William Edwin who was capped twice.
