The Rajko Mitić Stadium, originally known as Stadion Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Stadium), was built on the site of the former Jugoslavija Stadium and officially opened in 1963. The stadium quickly gained the nickname "Marakana" due to its large capacity, likened to the famous Maracanã Stadium in Brazil. It was initially able to hold over 100,000 spectators, making it one of Europe's largest stadiums at the time. In December 2014, the stadium was officially renamed Stadion Rajko Mitić to honor the legendary captain and one of Red Star Belgrade's most celebrated figures, Rajko Mitić. Today, it remains the largest stadium in Serbia by capacity.
