- William Clegg, brother of fellow international Sir John Charles Clegg was an accomplished athletic runner at college. He became Mayor of Sheffield 1893-99 and knighted in 1906. As a solicitor he was on the unsuccessful defence team for Charles Peace, the notorious Banner Cross murderer.
