- John Bain earned his Oxford Blue in 1876 before playing his only international in March 1877 and his only cup final three weeks later losing 2-1 to Wanderers in extra time. A versitile player he played at half back during the cup final but as a forward for England.
As a barrister he was called to the bar in 1880 and served as teacher at Marlborough College from 1879-83 and 1886 until he retired in 1913.
