Notes:
Walton started with "Blackburn Imperial at the age of 16 from which he went to the Rovers in the season '83-84. He played several times as reserve, but his first big match was against Blackburn Olympic for the English Cup, when he played inside left...In the 85-86 season he took a permanent position in the team at inside right. The Rovers again took to the English Cup...Walton still played inside right until the season 89-90...Walton went over to play inside left...It was during this season that Walton played his first international against Ireland at Belfast...[In 1890-91 Rovers] again secured the English Cup. It was during the close of that season that Walton sustained his first serious accident. He was charging and received a kick which twisted his knee and incapacitated him for any further play that season. In the following season 91-92 he tried to fill in his old position but found he could not do so and he began to think that his football career was at an end when it was suggested to him to try and keep goal for the second team...after three matches he was asked to take the same position for the first team. He did so and kept goal for the remainder of the season." After Blackburn he went to Nelson Club and eventually became trainer back at Blackburn from 1898 to 1906. After his football career he became a publican. His over-exuberance at a Rovers-Everton cup tie in 1930 lead to his death according to some reports.
