Notes
Player InjuryHany Ramzy injures his left ankle bizarrely tackling Bull in his own area [31:02]. He painfully twists his ankle under his body and has to leave the field for lengthy treatment on the sidelines, most of the time writhing in pain. Egypt prepare (15) Saber Eid to replace him but Ramzy makes a recovery to hobble back onto the pitch in the 41st minute and completes the match.
QualificationIn one of the closest group stages of any World Cup, the winners England, did so by winning 1-0 in their final game against Egypt. All the other games in the group resulted in draws. With both Netherlands and Ireland having identical records and both assured of qualfication to the next round, lots were drawn to decide their paths.
