A year before the '86 World Cup in Mexico the Ciudad de Mexico Cup was held as a warm-up event with Mexico as host, Italy as Champions and England. Oddly, there was a second tournament scheduled and the final game, England v Mexico, also counted for the Aztec 2000 Tournament. All the matches were played at the Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.
