The current Czech Republic side had its origins as Bohemia in the early 1900s. England beat a Bohemian side 4-0 in Prague in 1908. At the end of the First World War, the two states of Czech and Slovakia declared independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and so began an era of playing international football as Czechoslovakia until the two states declared independence from one another in 1993.
England have a good record against the Czech Republic in all its guises. Winning nine of the fifteen matches including two World Cup games in 1970 and 1982.
