Assist: Stuart Pearce. "Certainly a victory seemed likely when England took the lead 10 minutes inot the second half. Pearce drove a free-kick low past the line of defenders, Platt lunged for it amd managed to toe-poke past Thorstvedt." David Platt12th of 27 goals. Right-footed from 7 yards., 56' 55:15

36:45 Pretty ugly tackle from behind on Ingebritsen who falls into Batty catching his face on his leg leaving a cut above his right eye. He has to go off for treatment. It's a bit unsavoury for a few minutes as Ingebritsen thinks Batty kicked him deliberately but comes back on soon afterwards [39:11].

"Sorloth crossed from the left and the England defence stood off Rekdal, allowing him to chest the ball down before producing a left-foot 20-yard shot that swung into the right-hand corner of the net." Kjetil Rekdal, 77'76:09

Notes
- Player InjuryPedersen goes down heavily when jumping for a high ball with Shearer [19:25]. He lies worryingly prostrate for a few minutes, but is finally up on his feet and helped off the field by the Norwegian backroom staff who seem to suggest to the referee that an elbow was used by Shearer. TV replays are inconclusive.
