  • "Following a corner from Lund on the right Clemence half-punched the ball clear but it was quickly paid back to Lund who chipped towards the near post. Clemence seemed to have it covered but suddenly Albertsen darted in front of the England goalkeeper and deflected it past him." Roger Albertsen, 36'35:09
  • "Five minutes before half-time they took the lead...McDermott...having intercepted a square pass from Okland on the right, then lost control of the ball and allowed Thoresen the chance to beat Clemence." Hallvar Thoresen, 41'40:11

Notes

  • Norwegian ReactionAt the conclusion of the match, Bjorge Lillenlien, commentating on Norwegian television entered folklore, "Lord Nelson! Lord Beaverbrook! Sir Winston Churchill! Sir Anthony Eden! Clement Atlee! Henry Cooper! Lady Diana! Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me, Maggie Thatcher! Your boys took one hell of a beating! Your boys took one hell of a beating!"
  • World Cup QualificationThis result put England's World Cup qualification into some doubt. England still topped the group with seven points but they had only one game left to play - against Hungary (5 points) who had four fixtures left. Romania and Switzerland (6 and 4 points respectively) both had three games to play. England had to sweat it out for over two months whilst any one of five games could have sealed their fate. Fortunately, luck was on their side - Romania only manged a further two points from their three games and Switzerland three. England went into the last game knowing a draw would be enough to see them through on goal difference.
