• The Turkish Football Federation was formed in April 1923 and within 6 months they were already playing international football drawing 2-2 with Romania in Instanbul. Turkey qualified for the 1950 World Cup but had to withdraw, they also qualified for the 1954 World Cup after drawing lots with Spain (they had drawn three sucessive play-offs and it was in the days before penalty shoot-outs). Their only other World Cup appearance was in 2002 in Japan and Korea where they finished 3rd after losing to Brazil in the semi-final.
  Turkey's record aganst England is appauling. Despite 2 commendable 0-0 draws in 1987 and 2003 Turkey have still to score. The cumulative goal difference: 31-0.
