  • Based in Bratislava the Slovak Football Association was founded in 1938 and became a FIFA member in 1939. A short-lived experience as a combined Czechoslovakian team was created after the second world war until independence in 1994. The Slovakian national team's first match was a 2-0 win over a Nazi Germany team in August 1939.
After independence, they qualified for their first World Cup in 2010 and their first European championship in 2016 where they faced England in an insipid 0-0 draw during the group stages.
That match was the fourth encounter after meeting twice in Euro '04 qualifying and once in a friendly in 2009. England are unbeaten having won all three of those prior games plus the first qualifying match for the 2018 World Cup in September 2016.
