  • For the centenary of the Football Association in 1963 an England vs The Rest of the World match took place. England won 2-1.
    In 2001, FIFA, arbiters of everything and answerable to no-one, took the remarkable steps to cleansing the international footballing world of undesirable inconsistencies. Football eugenics, as it were. Only matches against other 'recognised' FIFA affiliated countries could be counted as full internationals and this rationale was retrospectively applied to all international matches ever. The two matches against the Rest of Europe and one against the Rest of the World were scrubbed from history and remain officially unofficial. So as not to delete any personal records of players they confusingly allowed caps and goals to stand.
    The Football Association doesn't agree with any of this and continue to classify the three games as official. So do we.
