  • The Azzurri played their first game against France in 1910, winning 6-2. They are, barring Brazil, the most successful team in international football with four World Cup wins and one European Championship win. Italy's history with England is very colourful. They are one of only four teams that have a better head to head record against England. (Brazil, Uruguay and Romania are the others). The first meeting was a drawn friendly in Rome in 1933 but the next encounter was the most memorable: The Battle of Highbury.
Despite England winning the latest encounter it is still only two wins in the last eleven stretching back to 1980.
