Understanding statistics and abbreviation guide
Clubs
All club statistics are for clubs that England players were registered with at the time of playing. If a player is deemed out on loan when he is capped then the original club that holds his registration is credited. Even though many players played for different clubs before and after their England careers these are not credited.
Captaincy
Captaincies are only credited to the player who starts the match as captain. Change of armband during a match is not credited.
Competative matches
All matches that are not counted as friendlies. Small tournaments and the British Home Championship are included as competative matches as there was a trophy on offer for all of them.

Match Statistics

The below definitions are for the express purposes of illustrating how these statistics are compiled and are not necessarily a definition on
the rules of the game.
